Sisters of Salome: Persephone

Persephone, the innocent maiden goddess of vegetation, frolics with her mother Demeter and other goddesses in the sunlit fields among the fragrant hyacinths and crocus blossoms. She knows only the scents and sights of pure joy and freedom. Hades becomes enchanted by Persephone and whisks her away to the Underworld where she is enticed to eat pomegranate seeds from his world. Upon consuming the seeds, she becomes bound to the Underworld unable to return to the surface or her mother. Following Persephone’s disappearance, Demeter, Goddess of Grain and Growth, casts off her worldly duties in her sadness. The world is frozen and spring cannot come.
